My resources are both English & Geography resources where I like to give the student an active role in their learning. This PowerPoint starts with a re-cap on context from Northern Ireland. It then gives students information on the many layers within the poem and also what Longley’s main message is. The students are then asked to answer questions on the poem-these are displayed within the PowerPoint and leads to discussion. Before moving to a diary entry, students are asked to choose a statement. This is to assess the students understanding of the poem before moving forward. The lesson finishes with a plenary to assess students learning. This is lesson two of Longley’s poem Wounds. The first is relating to context.

This resource is part of a lesson I had for an inspection where we focused on Dickens’ portrayal of Fagin. This extracts focuses on Fagin’s final scene. This exercise can be done in pairs or individually. It is also differentiated to higher and lower to allow all students to access it. This is a resource I used with my KS4 students on their Coursework A for Pearson IGCSE Edexcel. This was used after students were due to submit their final piece of work. This RAG (Red, Amber, Green) list asks them several questions to make sure they have proofread their essay before submission. The resource is 2 pages and can be glued into their books or placed into their folder.

The main activity within this PowerPoint is where students use their imagination and put themselves in Sophie’s shoes and use the ‘negative feelings’ sheet to help them describe when The BFG took them. Lesson one shows students the context of Northern Ireland and a how ‘The Troubles’ impacted Longley. It also gives students an introduction to the poem and by completing various tasks. Lesson 2 analyses the poem in more detail in terms of both language and structure. It allows students to form their own opinion of the meaning of the poem through probing questions. Both of these lessons were used for remote learning but can easily be used in the classroom also.

This lesson covers all of Act 1 Scene 3 where both Macbeth and Banquo meet the Three Witches. The onus of this lesson is to show students the start of Macbeth’s ambition. Students are asked to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of both Macbeth and Banquo. They then answer a series of questions before analysing small extracts that show Macbeth’s internal struggle and also ambition.

A PowerPoint presentation that analyses Bertie and Lionel's relationship in The Kings Speech. There are links to two particular scenes showing the development of the relationship embedded in the PowerPoint which are used for students to analyse.
